November, 4.30pm.
Members are encouraged to consider taking on one of the roles that are vital for the continuation of the Association. Should you have an
interest in filling any of the positions on the Committee please complete the Nomination Form attached and ensure it is returned prior to
4pm on the evening of the AGM. Please ensure you read the nomination form and the related sections of the PLEAWA Constitution prior to your

PLEAWA is excited to host an online Masterclass with Katy McDougall, the Director of the Criminal Law Division at Legal Aid WA. Our
conversation will focus on a recently implemented reform to the criminal law process in Western Australia - the Criminal Law (Mental
Impairment) Act 2023,
which will put in place special hearings for those who may be unfit to plead their case due to mental impairment. This will be followed
by an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

TWILIGHT SERIES 2019
The Constitutional Centre of Western Australia in conjunction with the Electoral Regulation Research Network and the Australian Association
of Constitutional Law invites you to a twilight seminar: Election Funding and the Implied Freedom of Political Communication – Unions NSW v
NSW This seminar will explore the implications for legislation regulating political donations after the High Court’s recent decision in
Unions NSW v New South Wales [2019] HCA 1. The case saw the Court unanimously strike down s 29(10) of the Electoral Funding Act 2018 (NSW)
as impermissibly burdening the constitutionally protected implied freedom of political communication. Both the constitutional and electoral
funding implications of the case will be explored during the seminar.
