Aug 21

PLEAWA is excited to host an online Masterclass with Katy McDougall, the Director of the Criminal Law Division at Legal Aid WA. Our conversation will focus on a recently implemented reform to the criminal law process in Western Australia - the Criminal Law (Mental Impairment) Act 2023, which will put in place special hearings for those who may be unfit to plead their case due to mental impairment. This will be followed by an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

This is a useful event for teachers and students of Politics & Law in Western Australia. It will deepen your understanding of:

  • Year 11: A recently implemented or proposed reform to the criminal law process in WA
  • Year 11: Strengths and weaknesses of WA's adversarial criminal law processes
  • Year 12: The ways that human rights are protected in Australia
  • Year 12: Democratic principles (esp. natural justice) in Australia
  • Year 12: The experience of a particular group with respect to their political and legal rights

This is a fantastic opportunity for students and teachers of Politics & Law. Don't miss your chance to participate in our Q&A and ask Katy 'questions without notice'.
